Have Something to Say to Your Ex? Use The Vault

What is The Vault?

The Vault is a free, private tool for anyone who wants to contact an ex but suspects pressing send might create more problems than it solves. Write everything you want to say in the Dead Message Office, send it to The Vault and watch your words disappear permanently. Nothing you write is saved or stored, and you’ll receive a little encouragement to help you through the moment.

When should you use The Vault?

The Vault is there for all those moments when the feelings are real but sending the message probably isn’t the best idea. You might want to use it when:

  • You’re feeling sad, missing your ex and longing to make contact.
  • You have unfinished thoughts you desperately want them to hear.
  • You’re angry and need to have a proper rant without starting another argument.
  • Something has reminded you of them and brought everything rushing back.
  • You’ve written “one last message” several times already, but this one really, definitely, absolutely will be the last.
  • Your finger is hovering over their name and your sensible voice has temporarily left the building.

The original Dead Message Office

The idea was inspired by the Dead Message Office on the original So You’ve Been Dumped discussion forum. It became the most popular thread on the forum and eventually ran to 314 pages, filled with messages people needed to write but didn’t necessarily need their ex to read. I first noted down the idea for turning it into an app back in 2009, and it only took technology another seventeen years to catch up with me.

Write it, release it and leave it in The Vault

The Vault is free to use, available 24/7 and ready whenever you need somewhere private to let it all out. You can use it once, return whenever the urge strikes or recommend it to a friend whose finger is getting dangerously close to the send button.
